What a wonderful community. When I arrived I felt like I was home. With a convenient location only an hour and a half west of the Twin Cities metro area, Buffalo Lake is a welcoming small town located on the vast prairie of west central Minnesota. The calming vista of being able to view a 360 degree horizon of prairie and farmlands lends to spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

Buffalo Lake is conveniently located on Highway 212, so it is easily accessible for those that commute to the Twin Cities, but most residents work in the businesses and agricultural jobs in the surrounding area.

The land around Buffalo Lake is known for possessing some of the most fertile soil for farming in the state. They also have the latest technological advances in meat processing, agriculture and industry. Buffalo Lake is proud to be a part of the new “green” agriculture and living movements by being home to one of the state's ethanol plans.

You might have heard about Buffalo Lake a few years ago when tornados hit the town in June of 2003. Fortunately there was no loss of life and only a few minor injuries. The western half of the town was heavily damaged, but their citizens pulled together and
rebuilt, healing as a stronger community. Today it's a community
respectful of its heritage, yet ready to embrace the changes and
challenges of the future with a helpful pioneer spirit.

Buffalo Lake patronizes and supports its local businesses.
New businesses and visitors are welcome to come and
experience how wonderful small town living can be.
